Grade & Contents

Japanese language study in Elementary School emphasizes three central pillars of abilities, which are the abilities to “think,” “learn,” and “express.” Junior High School conducts project-based exploratory learning, utilizing not only textbooks but also reference books and ICT. We develop the students’ qualities and abilities to understand accurately and express properly in Japanese by selecting accurate information from the research and sharing it in groups to deepen the learning.

Approach to Education

Course Contents

【Kindergarten】
In Kindergarten, the teachers and the children hold a meeting once a month, to discuss the themes of what they want to do. Then they extend their web of themes and learn through activities such as Math, Language, Science, Social Studies, Art, and Music. Activities on any decided “theme” may last up to three weeks. However, children work hard on their tasks, especially because it is something that they decide for themselves. Through these activities, children nourish sensibility, and they gain confidence for what they have accomplished, before moving on to their next stage, in elementary school.

【Elementary School】
Grade 1: Three educational objectives are “enjoy the school life,” “try things without fearing failure,” and “think before acting.” The curriculum is structured in a comprehensive and associative way so that the broader teaching unit, which covers multiple subjects, gradually differentiates into each subject unit.
Grade 2: Incorporating a wide range of exchanging opportunities into classes and school activities with students from different grades, each student will face up to his/her goal and begin to support one another, building a gentle and supportive spirit to give hands to his/her neighbors. The use of ICT in classes encourages children’s ability to summarize their thoughts by making presentations with LoiLo Note.
Grades 3-4: More cross-grade level activities are introduced here for students to build their social skills through collaborations between students of different grades. In addition, by incorporating many presentations in both Japanese and English, children will be able to actively convey their thoughts to others.
Grades 5-6: Students deepen their language skills through the Language Arts program. They also heighten their academic skills with more intense subject content.

【Junior High School】
Students develop a higher level of autonomy as they form various student bodies such as student councils and sub-committees. They discover their potential through personal research activities and projects. Students start forming goals for their future as they prepare for higher education.

ICT/STEM Education

In junior high school, each student has an iPad, which provides a learning environment for independent use in various subjects and activities. By using it every day, students develop their creativity and acquire ICT skills needed for the new era, obtain information from the internet to use for learning, and create reports, presentations, videos, etc.

Presentation Opportunities

Throughout the ninth grade (senior year in Junior High School), students engage in “individual projects,” where they set up their own themes, conduct surveys/research, and make presentations.
