Activities Involving Japanese Customs

The Shared Programs with a sister school bring different cultures and perspectives together in one classroom. The sister school is Senri International School of Kansei Gakuin (SIS). Students enrolled in SIS study for Japanese middle school and high school diplomas, following a curriculum approved by the Japanese Ministry of Education.

Approach to Education

Course Contents

【Elementary】
The education follows the PYP curriculum, in which instructors design units of inquiry that are transdisciplinary across subjects offered: maths, language, science, social studies, PSPE (personal, social and physical education), and the arts (music and art).

【Middle / High】
Students in grades 6 to 10 learn in the MYP and 11 to 12 in the IB curricula.

* Notes on the campus
The school shares a campus with a private Japanese middle and high school Senri International School (SIS). The PE, art, music classes and selected language options are shared by students from both schools. The concert bands, orchestras and choirs, the sports teams, and student government are also comprised of students from both schools

ICT/STEM Education

The mathematics and science curriculums are integrated, so students are exposed to algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc., every year in mathematics and life, and physical and earth sciences every year in science. As they mature, students will learn at a more complex level each year in different areas, resulting in a spiral curriculum model. The curriculum emphasizes concepts and understanding, not only skill development.

Students are assessed in a variety of ways, including tests, projects, and oral presentations.

Career Education

A student-driven college counseling program guides students from grade 9 for college readiness, research, and application.
